Performance exposed to immensity
(under construction)
Immensity
From the Latin immensus, meaning "that which cannot be measured."
Immensity defies measurement—this is precisely why it captivates me.
When faced with immensity, human beings are invited (or compelled) to confront the unknown, embrace uncertainty, take risks, and revel in mystery. It calls us to perceive ourselves as beings in perpetual transformation, constantly shaped by an unavoidable relationship with the environment around us.
Research Questions
-
What happens when artistic processes move beyond purely anthropocentric and theatrical settings, and are exposed to the immensity of the sea for extended periods?
-
How does artistic creation shift when it emerges from an ecological positioning of humanity within the rest of nature?
Beyond the Anthropocentric Setting
Taking the artistic process out of a purely anthropocentric setting means exposing it to environmental conditions and dynamics beyond human control. Here, artists create not in conventional spaces designed by humans for humans, but within a genuine, vital interdependence between themselves and their environment.
What Do We Feel in the Face of Immensity?
Immensity evokes a spectrum of emotions—joy, wonder, fascination, fear.
Why does the physical encounter with sea creatures bring such unconditional joy? Why do the horizon’s elusiveness, the wind’s touch, and the sunlight reflecting on the water hold such profound poetic resonance for human beings?
